Person found dead in Price County identified as Marshfield woman

PRICE COUNTY – A person found dead north of Prentice in Price County last week has been identified as a Marshfield woman, and a Marshfield man has been arrested in connection to her death.

According to the Price County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, Nov. 3, at approximately 8:56 p.m., a deceased person was discovered near the area of State Hwy. 13 and Whitby Rd. in the Town of Hackett.

At that time, the Sheriff’s Office said there was no known threat to the community, and that the investigation was ongoing.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Sheriff’s Office said it was “continuing to follow up on any and all leads” pertaining to the case and asked those who were traveling on State Hwy. 13 near Whitby Rd. on the evening Sunday, Nov. 3  to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, Nov. 12, said the victim was a female, 28, from Marshfield. A release shared on Facebook by the Marshfield Police Department identified the victim as Blanca Jesenia Hernandez Portocarrero.

Hernandez Portocarrero’s death was related to a domestic violence incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

 Deyvin Castro Gutierrez, 38, of Marshfield, was arrested by the Marshfield Police Department in connection with Hernandez Portocarrero’s death. He is expected to be charged with first-degree intentional homicide.

The Sheriff’s Office and Marshfield Police Department were assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, Vilas County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit, Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Park Falls Police Department, Phillips Police Department, Rhinelander Police Department K9 unit, Prentice Fire Department, Price County Coroner’s Office, Wisconsin Statewide Intelligence Center, DOJ Crime Response Specialists, Wood County District Attorney’s Office and Price County District Attorney’s Office.

Price County Sheriff Brian Schmidt and Marshfield Police Chief Geurink thanked those who took the time met with and assisted law enforcement during the investigation.
