LINCOLN COUNTY – Tuesday, Sept. 1 was National Police K-9 Day, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office took the opportunity to give a shoutout to K-9 Dasty.
The Sheriff’s Office noted that in the weeks leading up to National Police K-9 Day, Dasty has been called upon several times to put his training to work.
In mid-August, Dasty assisted another area agency during a traffic stop and helped locate suspected drugs. The following day, he aided with another traffic stop that also resulted in suspected drugs being found.
Less than a week later, Dasty was called in to help with the search for a missing and endangered woman. Shortly after his arrival, Dasty was provided a scent article and began tracking. The Sheriff’s Office said Dasty’s track helped lead to the woman’s location.
The Sheriff’s Office said these are “just a few examples of what a trained K-9 team can bring to law enforcement.”
“Whether searching for a missing person, assisting another agency or helping locate illegal drugs, countless hours of training go into making sure Dasty and his handler are ready when the call comes,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “Today, we’re proud to recognize Dasty and all of the working police K-9 teams serving their communities. Happy National Police K-9 Day, Dasty!”
