TOWN OF SPIRIT – A large crowd enjoyed the 84th annual Spirit-Hill-Ogema 4-H Fair, held at the Spirit Town Hall on Friday, Aug. 14 and Saturday, Aug. 15.
More than 30 4-Hers from the Hillbillies, Happy Hoboes, Restless Rascals, Wilson Workers and Hamburg Hawks clubs exhibited more than 300 entries.
Fair Secretary Colleen Schult said dozens of volunteers helped as department superintendents, judges, concession stand and kitchen workers and game leaders. Volunteers also assisted with setting up and cleaning up the fairgrounds.
Spirit Historical Society members offered tours of Our Yesterday House and sold deep fried cheese curds and iced coffee throughout the day Saturday, and the Crazy Heart Quilters displayed several quilts and offered a creative project for youth to make.
“Many community members viewed the indoor exhibits, watched the live animal judging in the new show arena and enjoyed the brat fry style lunch along with popcorn and ice cream served up by 4-H club members and their parents,” Schult stated. “Adults and children participated in numerous afternoon games.”
An evening program included entertaining skits from the participating 4-H clubs, presentation of trophies and acknowledgement of merit winners, and announcements of game winners. Ed Ulrich was recognized for his many years of service as Hillbillies club leader and fair board member.
The 4-H clubs’ annual meeting will be held at the Spirit Town Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
