TOMAHAWK – The Support Tomahawk Area Resources (STAR) Foundation recently distributed a total of $12,000 in grants to six local initiatives.

Acting as a community chest for businesses and individuals, the STAR Foundation makes charitable grants to community groups, clubs and nonprofit organizations that contribute to the health and vitality of the Tomahawk area. Since its inception in April 2004, the STAR Foundation has donated more than $400,000.00 to local community groups.

The STAR Foundation said the recent round of grant funding “continues its commitment to supporting organizations, programs and events that make a difference in the Tomahawk community.”

The Foundation awarded $1,000 to the Tomahawk Historical Film Project, helping support an effort to preserve and share Tomahawk’s history. The project recently celebrated the premiere of its film on Saturday, Sept. 12, bringing local history to the big screen for the community to enjoy.

A $1,000 grant was awarded to the Tomahawk Titans, supporting the organization’s efforts to provide opportunities and build connections within the community.

Looking ahead to the holiday season, the STAR Foundation also made a $5,000 pledge to Hometown Christmas. The Foundation noted that the annual celebration has become a special part of the holiday season in Tomahawk, bringing residents and visitors together for festivities throughout the community.

The Foundation awarded $2,500 to Our Sisters’ House, which provides support and resources to individuals and families in the area during times of need.

An additional $1,000 was awarded to The Salvation Army, helping support its work assisting local individuals and families, including its Backpack Program, which helps provide students with essential school supplies.

Rounding out the recent awards, the STAR Foundation approved $1,500 for Tomahawk Community Theater, supporting local arts and opportunities for community members to participate in and enjoy live theater.

“Through these grants and pledges, the STAR Foundation is proud to continue investing in the organizations, programs and events that strengthen the Tomahawk area and help make it a great place to live, work and call home,” the STAR Foundation said.
