Tomahawk pup Ruby among WPS ‘ambassadog’ finalists

Voting now open

TOMAHAWK – A Tomahawk pup is among the finalists to become the next “ambassadog” for Wisconsin Public Service (WPS)’s safe digging campaign.

Voting in the contest is now underway, and the winner will help promote an important safety message: “Doggone it! Call 811 at least three days before you dig,” a release from WPS said.

WPS customers across northeast and northcentral Wisconsin submitted pictures of their canine candidates to be the company’s next ambassadog. Each canine was considered, with a pack of 10 top dogs emerging as finalists.

Among the finalists is Ruby, a one-year-old pup from Tomahawk. WPS said Ruby loves being outdoors, and when she’s not digging, she loves to swim and watch robins fly around her yard. Her owner says she’s playful.

Dogs from Merrill, Rhinelander, Wausau, Green Bay, Maribel, Pulaski and Stevens Point are also finalists in the contest.

WPS customers and dog lovers everywhere can vote for the next ambassadog at www.wisconsinpublicservice.com as many times as they like between now and 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 27.

The next WPS ambassadog will be featured on billboards on Tuesday, Aug. 11 (8/11 Day) and as part of the company’s safe digging awareness campaign all year long.

About 811

“Digging can be dangerous if you don’t call 811 at least three days in advance,” WPS said. “Whether you’re planting a garden or installing a fence, knowing the location of underground utilities helps keep you and your family safe. Contacting Diggers Hotline is easy, it’s free and it’s the law.”
