TOMAHAWK – On Friday, Jan. 30, School District of Tomahawk students in grades 4 through 8 took part in two Scripps National Spelling Bees.
School Bee Coordinator Angela McPherson explained that after several intense rounds of spelling, elementary students Lily Young, Ashtyn Brunner and Iona Oates and middle school students Noah Jenson, Claire Hauge and George VanAsten emerged as the district’s six winners.
Young and Jenson were named the Champion Spellers for their respective schools.
The six students will travel to Northland Pines on Friday, Feb. 6, to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee.
“It was wonderful to watch these kids encourage each other and step outside their comfort zones,” McPherson said.
