Posted

TOMAHAWK – This week, a Tomahawk resident was honored for his efforts in saving a life.

Lincoln County Sheriff Ken Schneider presented Mason Webster with the Sheriff's Recognition Award at Tomahawk City Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Deputy Ethyn Van Camp explained that on Dec. 22, 2023, Webster was in the area of Boat Rd. on the Spirit Flowage when he heard a man screaming for help. Webster discovered that the man had fallen through the ice.

After locating the man, Webster called 911 and held him up in the water for approximately 38 minutes, until emergency personnel were able to remove the man from the ice.

Van Camp said the award recognizes Webster for his “commendable courage” in helping rescue the man, noting that Webster “performed an act of outstanding personal bravery at imminent personal risk to (his) life and with knowledge of the hazards involved.”

“It is the belief of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office that had it not been for Mason's bravery, this incident would have had a much different outcome,” Van Camp stated. "Please join us in thanking Mason Webster for his bravery, selflessness and commitment to helping others in a life-threatening situation."
