TOWN OF PINE RIVER – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) this week announced that a wolf depredated a pet dog in the Town of Pine River in Lincoln County.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wildlife Services verified the depredation on Sunday, Feb. 2.
DNR said it encourages pet owners to monitor for wolf activity and exercise increased vigilance when pets are outside for extended periods of time, especially at night or during times of low visibility.
The DNR partners with the USDA Wildlife Services department to investigate reported conflicts with wolves.
Interactive maps, past reports and damage payment information are available on the DNR's website.
Livestock producers who suspect a wolf or bear has depredated or is harassing livestock can contact USDA Wildlife Services at 1-800-228-1368 (northern Wisconsin) or 1-800-433-0663 (southern Wisconsin).
