WPS to test Jersey Dam flood emergency warning siren

Posted

TOMAHAWK – This week, the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS) will conduct a test of the flood emergency warning siren at the Jersey Hydroelectric Project.

The Jersey Hydroelectric Project, also known as the Jersey Dam, is located on the Tomahawk River near County Hwy. CC and Jersey Ln. on the west side of Tomahawk.

The test will take place on Thursday, June 25, between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

WPS said the siren warning system is designed to alert residents and the general public downstream of the facility of flash flooding in the event of a dam failure.

“This is only a test and does not require evacuation,” WPS stated.

In an actual emergency, sirens would sound continuously, and the public should evacuate the area, move to higher ground and monitor local news outlets for instructions, according to WPS.

“Wisconsin Public Service Corporation works closely with emergency officials to help keep residents safe in the unlikely event of a dam failure,” WPS said.
