Fire Prevention Week observed in Tomahawk

TES students learn about fire safety, equipment.Tomahawk Elementary students in 4K through 5th grade got a special visit this week as local firefighters came to school for the annual Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters showed younger students their fire truck and why each piece of equipment matters. Throughout the day, older students dug deeper into home fire safety by practicing “stop, drop, and roll” and discussing how to plan and rehearse a family escape route with two ways out of every room. Students also learned to pick a safe meeting spot outside their home and to call 911 in an emergency. “With plenty of questions and lots of enthusiasm, the event reminded everyone that fire safety starts with knowing what to do before an emergency happens,” the district said. “Tomahawk Elementary School thanks the firefighters for their time and for helping students feel prepared and confident."

Local heroes stop by St. Mary’s School.Members of the Tomahawk and Nokomis fire departments also stopped by St. Mary’s School, where they taught students about fire safety. St. Mary’s gave the local heroes a shoutout for the visit. “Our students had a wonderful time learning valuable lessons that will help keep them and others safe,” St. Mary’s said. “We are so grateful for all that you do for our school and our community. Your service, dedication and willingness to educate our students are truly appreciated. May God bless you and keep you safe as you continue serving and protecting our community.”

Presentation at the Tomahawk Public Library. The Tomahawk Public Library (TPL) thanked members of the Tomahawk Fire Department and the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department, which make up the Tomahawk Area Fire Prevention Group, for providing a presentation on Fire Prevention Week. “They focused on lithium battery safety, which has become a big issue,” TPL said. “Please take time to understand the dangers associated with them.”
