Hatchet swimmers compete in Ashwaubenon invitational

ASHWAUBENON – Last week, the Tomahawk High School boys’ swim team competed at an invitational in Ashawubenon.

Ten of the 15 schools in the meet were Division 1.

“We knew we were not going to place any significant final medal times, but we had just had a great mini-taper week of practice, and I knew we were going to have some great personal records,” said coach Theresa L’Esperance.

Senior Captain Bruce Peetz led the charge with three personal records on the day, while missing the 500 record held by Kole Savinca by one second. Peetz also broke the 50 free mark by swimming a 23.77.

Connor Germano anchored the medley relay, but he, along with the rest of the 190 swimmers, stood waiting for the timing system to get fixed, L’Esperance noted.

“One hour of standing waiting takes a lot of mental strain,” L’Esperance stated.

Germano set a personal record in the anchor positions, then began to get better through the day. L’Esperance noted that Germano corrected the things he could. His last event was the 400 relay, in which he swam third.

“Connor was extremely focused on improving his start,” L’Esperance said, adding that he jumped a perfect entry, which was “thankfully caught on camera.”

L’Esperance said new swimmer E. Scott helped the Lakeland Swim Team by participating in two relays. Scott ultimately ended up with two personal records.

Other personal records included T. Scott (two), B. Fischer (one), A. Sigl (three), M. Amelse (two) and M. Lucas (two).
