TOMAHAWK – The 49th annual Pow Wow Days 5K, 10K and One-Mile Fun Run are set to take place during Tomahawk’s 4th of July celebration, and registration for the races is now open.

All Pow Wow Days races depart from Veterans Memorial Park in Tomahawk.

According to race organizers, the 10K is run on a scenic route along the Wisconsin River towards the turnaround point atop beautiful Kings Hill, just past the historic Kings Dam.

The 5K looped course is mostly flat and follows the 10K route for approximately 2,400 meters before cutting across the edge of the School District of Tomahawk grounds and back to School Rd. The course then goes Somo Ave., and then back to Veterans Memorial Park.

The One-Mile Fun Run is a looped course for all ages. Organizers noted that awards for the race are only for those 12 and under.

The 5K and 10K races start at 8:30 a.m. sharp, and the Fun Run begins around 9:30 a.m., after the majority of the 5K participants have finished.

Pre-registrant bib and T-shirt pick-up for all races starts at 7 a.m. under the gazebo in the park. Pre-registration will end at noon on Thursday, July 3. Race day registration station closes at 8:15 a.m. for the 5k and 10k and 9:15 a.m. for the Fun Run, with no guaranteed T-shirt.

“So, save money and get a T-shirt by registering early,” organizers said. “Please note that T-shirts are only guaranteed with registrations before Friday, June 12. A limited supply of shirts will be available for purchase on race day.”

The last few years have seen between 600 and 700 runners take part in the races, according to organizers.

“Once again, we will have a July 4th Independence Day ‘Most Patriotic’ costume contest, with prizes for the runners with the top three outfits,” organizers said. “The top 100 10K finishers are guaranteed to receive a finishers 10K medal in the finish chute. The top three finishers in each age group for the 5K and One-Mile Fun Run will receive medals that will be available at the awards table under the gazebo.”

Refreshments, provided by Northwoods Vineyard Church, will be available in the finishing corral for race finishers.

“Please remember that 5K and 10K races will start together,” organizers stated. “Eventually, the races lead to a Y-intersection, where the 5K runners take a sharp right turn onto school grounds, and 10K runners go left, continuing on King Rd.”

Organizers noted that there will not be an awards ceremony.

“Instead, awards for the 5k and Fun Run can be picked up after you finish your race at the awards table, which will be located under the gazebo,” organizers said. “Please ensure you have your race bib with you, as the awards volunteer will need to verify your place with the PT Timing live results strictly using your bib number. Award winners in the 10k will receive their award in the finish chute.”
