WAUSAU – Four Tomahawk youth athletes are among those who have found success on a newly formed cheer team in central Wisconsin.
The squad, known as Rockstar, is a Northern Extreme Athletics (NXA) competition cheer team based in Wausau.
The team includes Tomahawk members Kennedy Marten, age 11; Lilly Young, 11; Bristol Braker, eight; and Lyanna Camargo, nine.
As an All-Star team focused exclusively on high-intensity skills like elite stunting, pyramid building and tumbling, the youth squad competed in six national competitions against other teams from across the United States.
In their inaugural season, the squad has achieved extraordinary results.
National competitions were held from last November through this April in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Schaumburg, Ill., Minneapolis, Minn., and Indianapolis, Ind., before wrapping up in DeKalb, Ill. The Rockstar squad secured first-place honors in the majority of their events and ultimately achieved the highest overall score in their division in the entire country.
In addition to their first-place victories, the Rockstar team and NXA club also were recognized for their character and sportsmanship in receiving the prestigious ”Pass the Mat” award at the February Grand Championship in Schamburg. This honor is passed among teams nationwide and is designed to recognize cheer and dance programs that exemplify exceptional sportsmanship, unity, kindness and respect. The award highlights teams that serve as positive role models and community champions.
With a season marked by championship performances and outstanding character, the Tomahawk athletes and the NXA program continued to represent their community with pride, both on and off the mat.
